Lorton Rainfall and National Hurricane Preparadness Week

Daily rainfall totals for previous 24 hours measured at 6am from my rain gauge in Lorton.

With June beginning this week, we should think about our readiness for the upcoming hurricane season - it begins on Friday, and so this week has been named National Hurricane Preparadness Week.  We’ve already had our first two named storms off the southeast coast - Alberto and Beryl.  Chris and Debby and all the rest will be coming soon, so we should take advantage of the ongoing Virginia Sales Tax Holiday for Hurricane and Emergency Preparedness Equipment that runs through Thursday, May 31, 2012.  The Virginia Department of Taxation’s Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday Guidelines and Rules are available online.  For additional information on hurricane preparation, visit the Virginia Department of Emergency Management website.  More guidance is available from the National Hurricane Center.

These week in Lorton, we’ve had some rain during the weekdays and a sunny weekend.  I’d enjoy that all summer long!  Our rainfall for the month of May has been pretty close to normal.  Our totals for the week are:

Date Precipitation 05/21/2012 0.35” 05/22/2012 0.25” 05/23/2012 0.36” 05/24/2012 0.03” 05/25/2012 0.01” 05/26/2012 T 05/27/2012 0.00” Weekly Total 1.00”
