Lorton Drought Outlook for the Next Three Months; and Rainfall Amounts for July 16 - 22

Daily rainfall totals for previous 24 hours measured at 6am from my rain gauge in Lorton.

The average low this past Saturday at National airport was 71 degrees.  Instead, that was the actual high there for the day.  What a break from the warm July we’ve been having - the rain was refreshing as well.  

The National Weather Service last week issued their seasonal drought forecast for the next three months, and while the news is not good for the midwest, here in the mid-atlantic some improvement is expected, with the short and medium-term weather forecast models (out to 10 days) predicting some moderate to heavy rain amounts in the mid-Atlantic and lower temperatures.  That said, forecast confidence for the Mid-Atlantic regions is moderate, so we’ll just see what happens.  

My rain gauge in Lorton recorded the following precipitation at 6am on the day indicated for the previous 24 hours:
