Debbie Anderson- Debbie started volunteering when the Workhouse opened, wanting to support the artists and help them to be successful. Her grandmother was an artist, so she enjoys being surrounded by various works of art during her time volunteering as a gallery assistant. She says she enjoys keeping up with the artists and seeing their work on display.

Joe Rodriguez- A former corrections officer at the Occoquan prison complex, Joe’s interest in the history of the facility was sparked after attending the Workhouse Prison Lecture series. He now volunteers as a docent in the Prison Museum and his generous donations of memorabilia including photographs, artwork and more have been greatly appreciated. He says his favorite thing about becoming a volunteer has been figuring out how much he didn’t know about the Workhouse and its history.

There are innumerable benefits to volunteering! Aside from the feeling of satisfaction that donating time and effort to a worthy cause affords, volunteers receive discounts on classes and performances, attend volunteer appreciation events and have the opportunity to make friends with fellow community members who share their interests. Schedules are very flexible, so join us today! Please contact Julie Booth, Director of Community Relations, at juliebooth@workhousearts.org or (703) 584-2923.
