Calling All Campers!

With the summer season approaching faster than ever, the Workhouse Arts Center is anxiously awaiting another exciting year of summer camp!

Last year our campus was swarming with budding artists learning, creating and producing their very own masterpieces.  With many new and returning faces year after year, our program has grown to fit the needs of any young and maturing artist.  The Workhouse Summer Camp program is the only in the area to offer classes in singing, painting, dancing, photography, fiber, acting, drawing, movement, ceramics, glass, and game design… all in the same place!

Here at the Workhouse, we give you access to the all the arts experience you can handle in one summer!  Not only will you gain new skills in a top-notch facility, but work side-by-side with professional artists, instructors and directors.  Our staff has been carefully selected from instructors, resident artists and MAT (Master of Art in Teaching) students from George Mason University to teach you more than you can imagine about the world of art!  Now offering five unique camps, you can combine any number of sessions with a guarantee of learning something new each time!

The popular Visual Arts Explorers Camp is back again!  As 2013 marks its 5th year running, this program has never ceased to improve through the help of parents and campers themselves.  Learn special skills in unique classes like bookmaking, comic book illustration or photography!  Then, choose your best pieces to display in the final Art Under the Arches Exhibit; a fun-filled event supporting our youth arts community.  NEW THIS YEAR, Art Under the Arches was able to raise enough funds to assist those financially challenged to attend.  Please inquire about discounts and scholarship opportunities!

"This camp program is completely worth it… [my child] is gaining new experiences and harnessing skills she is able to use, not only at camp, but during the school year," commented an excited parent.

Theatre and Music Camp are both twisted together this year for an all-encompassing Performing Arts Camp!  Marking its 8th anniversary, you can take “The Stage” Theatre Camp and combine the worlds of drama, vocals and choreography to harness the skills of the stage! But why stop there?  “The Pit” Music Camp is spreading the love of live and instrumental music.  Pick up skills in guitar and piano, while creating your own tracks in our Media Lab with Apple’s Garage Band.  During the final week of camp, the Stage and Pit will come together to produce the first Performing Arts Gala Showcase!

"I am excited to see changes and new camps added to the program.  There is already so much great stuff happening, I can't wait to see what comes next!," responded one excited camper.

Steppin' Out! Dance Camp is an exciting new camp joining our program this year!  This inexpensive two-week program is designed for those of all skill levels eager to try something new or wanting to brush-up on skills they already own. “Step Out!" and take the chance to learn dance techniques and moves in styles like HipHop and Jazz!  Show off your new talent as you perform in the first ever Steppin’ Out Dance Showcase!

For you gamers out there, don't just play games anymore, create them!  The Workhouse is very proud to present the Summer Game Institute (SGI) with George Mason University!  This computer game design camp incorporates technology, visual arts, storytelling and music with creative thinking and problem solving skills.  So put down the controller and join your friends in our Media Lab to create your own “hands-on” board game, and then transform it into a computer game!

Join us at the Workhouse this summer!  Open your eyes and challenge your mind as you dive into the world of art; taking education to experience!  So, what are you waiting for?  Register now!
