Springfield Mall Reopening Now Scheduled for late 2014

Leasing for the soon-to-be Springfield Town Center is going strong.

The reopening of Springfield Mall as Springfield Town Center has been pushed to late 2014, but leasing for the new center is going well, reported Washington Business Journal after a Vornado second quarter earnings call last week.

On the call, Stephen Theriot, Vornado's chief financial officer said they have almost completed the restaurant leasing and has some very important lead tenants lined up, including Dick's Sporting Goods.

“So we’re more than satisfied with the leasing progress,” said Theriot on last week's earnings call.

In July, Lee District Supervisor told Patch the project was on schedule for completion in 2014. Unfortunately, prospective Springfield Town Center customers will have to wait a little longer than expected for the reopening, said Vornado CEO Steven Roth. Instead of a mid-2014 opening, the town center is now looking at a holiday opening later in the year.
