Workhouse Artists M.G. Stout and John Gascot Publish Children's Book

'The Art Monkeys' have been busy!

Workhouse Arts Center artists Mary Gallagher Stout and John Gascot (a.k.a. The Art Monkeys) have just published "USA to Z: Artful ABC's for Kids of All Ages." The book features alphabetized mixed media paintings of cities across the country.

"Kids learn English, geography and using art and thinking in a creative way," Stout told Patch. "John and I had been talking about making a children's book together, and I know that I have more in me that I want to write."

The duo chose cities based on population, and premiered their 6"x6" pieces in the Workhouses's recent 30x30 exhibition, where a number of artists were tasked with creating a new painting every day for a month. The work is still on display in the McGuire Woods Gallery in building W-16.
