Solo Exhibition, 2010 People's Choice MAD Artist! of the Year: Patricia McMahon Rice

As part of the Merger of Art and Design..MAD Artist! Program at the Workhouse, members of the Association of Interior Design Professionals (AIDP) worked with Workhouse Studio Artists to create room vignettes featuring the artists' work. These studio artists were designated as MAD Artists! of the Month. In an end of the year MAD Artist! collective exhibition, visitors to the gallery voted for the People's Choice from among the featured artists. The 2010 People's Choice MAD Artist! of the Year is Patricia McMahon Rice. She will have a solo exhibition in Gallery W-16 from May 11-29. The public is invited to join the artist for a reception on Saturday, May 14 from 6-9pm, in conjunction with the 2nd Saturday Art Walk.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Fascinated by light and shadow, shape and texture, realist artist Patricia McMahon Rice paints portraits on commission in her Workhouse Arts Center studio with two goals in mind: capture the subject accurately, but aim for something special in the pose or lighting. Rice continues to explore various Old Master's media, most recently painting in oil on metal surfaces such as copper and zinc. This show debuts several of these metal paintings as well as her recent portrait of Gen. William E. "Kip" Ward. Gen. Ward's portrait will be installed in Stuttgardt, Germany in Africa Command Headquarters. A member of the Portrait Society of America, Rice has received national recognition through its Members Only Competition:  First in 2009 for her portrait, "The Ritter Family", and in again 2010 for her steeplechase scene, also on display in this show entitled "To The Finish".
