360 Degrees of Post Traumatic Stress at the Workhouse Arts Center

Creations from artist soldiers.

What does post traumatic stress look like? The Workhouse Arts Center will feature art from soldiers in transition at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital on June 22. The exhibit, 360 Degrees of Post-Traumatic Stress, reveals the unseen shades of PTSD.

The exhibit features sculpture created by local recovering soldiers and prints made by veterans in a Combat Paper Project workshop. It will be viewed at building W-16 at the Workhouse.

“This exhibition provokes a conversation between veterans, active duty service members, and civilians,” said Brett John Johnson, the Workhouse Director of Visual Arts. “It asks us to examine the mental reverberations of war in individuals and our community, highlighting the power of art when appropriated as a vehicle to shape, strengthen, and communicate ones mental struggles.”
