Whiz Kid(s) of the Week: Lorton Station History Buffs

Participated in state competition this past weekend

This week’s Whiz Kid is actually a group of six history buffs from Lorton Station Elementary School who competed in Virginia History Day this past weekend in Williamsburg.

They qualified for that honor by finishing in the Top 2 of the Regional History Day Competition at George Mason University on March 26.

Emma Stemler and Mea Anderson – Emma and Mea received a first place in the group website category for The Debate Between Brown and the Topeka Board of Education Affected the US School System Forever.

Kassidy Pate - Kassidy received a second place in the individual performance category for Diplomacy and Daring Deeds: Dual Strategies for Winning Women's Rights.

Abbi Conklin - Abbi received a third place in the individual performance category for Indian Removal in the 1830's: A Debate within the Cherokee Nation.

Chloe Baker - Chloe received a first place in individual documentary for The Alien and Sedition Acts: An Open Violation.

Evan Sparks - Evan received a second place in individual documentary for War at Home: How the Debate over the Vietnam War Left the American Public Divided.
