Whiz Kid of the Week: Heba Rashed

Science Whiz earned regional honor

This week's Whiz Kid is Heba Rashed. The senior at South County Secondary School was recently awarded a Grand Prize in the Medicine and Health category at the Regional Science Fair.

Heba's project was the Effect of Taurine on Cardiovascular Dysfunction in Daphnia Magna and her success at the Regional Fair guarantees her an invite to the international fair in California. During her studies, Heba learned that taurine is involved with the regulation of the heartbeat.

Heba is the oldest of four children to her parents Khaled and Hala. She plans on attending George Mason University in the fall and then Virginia Commonwealth University en route to a career as a dentist. Heba is not quite sure which type of dentistry she will practice, but an internship generated an interest in oral surgery.
