A coastal flood watch is in effect for the DC Metropolitan area until 2 a.m.
Earlier in the evening, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado moved north from Dale City at 30 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Impacted areas include Lorton, Woodbridge, Occoquan, Dale City, Newington, West Springfield, Burke and Franconia.

The region sustained heavy flooding last month, which followed a hurricane and earthquake that cracked the Washington Monument. The flooding destroyed a number of roadways, including Lorton Road, and displaced about 500 Prince William County residents.
