4. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi turns 75 today. 5. On Sept. 29, 1960, Soviet Union Premier Nikita Khrushchev interrupts a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly by pounding on a table with his fists and calling for the removal of the then-UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold  (unhappy over UN involvement in former Belgian Congo). The following month, he used the heel of his shoe as a gavel to hammer home his opposition to claims by the Phillippines delegate that the Soviet Union had deprived Eastern Europe "of the free exercise of their civil and political rights..."
