The 2013 Springfield Bridge Walk

Community members, military and elected officials walked across the Veteran's Bridge and renewed the Army Community Covenant.

Local elected officials, community leaders, school faculty, staff and students and military officials gathered Tuesday evening for the 12th Annual Springfield Bridgewalk.

Hundreds got together to walk across Veteran's Bridge to American Legion Plaza for a community celebration.

Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay welcomed members of the community and participants in this year's event. McKay also recognized American Legion Post 176 Commander James Matlock and thanked him for all that the American Legion does for veterans in the Lee District community.

During his brief speech McKay said this year's event was especially significant to the community because of their efforts to honor their local military friends by renewing the Army Community Covenant.

Del. Vivian Watts (D-39th) andSen. George Barker (D-39th) were also in attendance along with Colonel Gregory Gadson, Fort Belvoir Garrison Commander, Stephen Brooks, Deputy to the Garrison Commander, and Command Sergeant Major Chester Grelock, Fort Belvoir Garrison Command
Sergeant Major.

Other officials from Fort Belvoir joined the celebration as well including Lieutenant Colonel Brian Zarchin, Fort Belvoir Headquarters Battalion Commander and Command Sergeant Major Carolyn Reynolds, Headquarters Battalion Command Sergeant Major. Ron Adelphi, the U.S. Army Reserve Ambassador for Virginia also returned to for this year's Bridewalk event.

Kings Park Concert Band provided patriotic music during the event and has been a part of the bridge walk ceremony since it started 12 years ago.
