2. On this date in 1910, former U.S. President Teddy Roosevelt became the first chief executive to fly in an airplane. Roosevelt, a famed adventurer, flew for about four minutes in a craft designed by the Wright Brothers at Kinloch Field (later Lambert-St. Louis International Airport).

3. On October 11, 1975, the world was introduced to Saturday Night Live. Comedian George Carlin was the first host, and the guests were Andy Kaufman, Janis Ian and Billy Preston.

4. American golfer Michelle Wie turns 21 today. Other notable Oct. 11 birthdays include First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962), American novelist Elmore Leonard (b. 1925), U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) (b. 1950), British comedian Dawn French (b. 1957), American actress Joan Cusack (b. 1962), Jordan's Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein (b. 1963), American actor Luke Perry (b. 1965), British actor Stephen Moyer (b. 1969) and American actress Emily Deschanel (b. 1976).

5. On this date in 1865, Jamaican Baptist deacon Paul Bogle led hundreds of his countrymen to Morant Bay to protest unfair treatment of black citizens. British troops opened fire and seven protestors were killed. The incident incited a riot, in which 18 people were killed. Bogle, now recognized as a national hero, was executed by hanging two weeks later. His likeness can be seen today on the Jamaican .10 cent piece.

6. The weather today will be mostly cloudy with a temperature of 72 degrees. There is a 90% chance of rain after 8:00 p.m., and the low will be around 60 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
