Lorton to 'Spring Into Action' at Annual LCAC Gala

An evening of grandeur is organized for a good cause.

The  (LCAC) will host it's annual Spring Gala on Saturday night. The "Spring Into Action" event is the largest fundraiser of the year for the nonprofit.

The community action center serves families in Lorton, Fort Belvoir and Newington.

"Our pantry is straining to meet the needs of the more than 160 families each week who are coming to LCAC for food," said LCAC Executive Director Linda Patterson. "We are running low on a few items: breakfast cereal, rice, cooking oil and canned fruit."

Registration is closed for the gala, which will be held from 6:30-11:30 p.m. at Harbour View, 13200 Marina Way, on the Occoquan River, but Patch will be there with a camera to document the action.

"We will have served more families in the first six months of this year compared to last year," Patterson said. "The majority of our families are working, but they are 'under-employed.' Rather than working a full-time job, many are working one or more part-time jobs that don’t add up to a full-time salary."

The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with hors d' oeuvres and a silent auction, followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m., a brief award ceremony, and dancing to music by the Johnny Artis Band
