UPDATE: Fifty Percent Chance of Rain and Snow After 1 PM Sunday

UPDATE: Sunday, 7:30 a.m.—The National Weather Service says Northern Virginia has a 50 percent chance of seeing a mix of rain and snow starting after 1 p.m. on Sunday. The NWS predicts we will see less than a half-inch accumulation.

The NWS forecasts a 40 percent chance of snow for Northern Virginia, same accumulation amount of less than a half-inch, falling before midnight.

The prediction for Monday's weather is sunny with a high of 47 degrees, according to NWS.

UPDATE: Saturday, 5:30 p.m.—With temperatures nudging 60 degrees Saturday, it's difficult to imagine any white stuff falling from the skies tomorrow, but area weather forecasters aren't ruling it out.

The possibility for snow still seems too close to call. Best-case chances are calling for up to 2 inches of "wet snow," with the possibility of icy roads early Monday morning before the sun melts it away.

Here's what some area forecasters are saying Saturday afternoon:

Capital Weather Gang: "The best chance of seeing a little accumulating snow will be from D.C. south, with chances of getting shut out increasing to the north."

WJLA's Bob Ryan: "The snow, even light around DC, will continue after sunset [Sunday] so some roads will be slippery Sunday evening.  The storm will be gone by late Sunday night and back to some strong February sun for Presidents Day holiday on Monday but there sure could be icy spots early."

Storm4 Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer: "Expect a few flakes in D.C. and a coating to 2 inches of snow south of D.C."

Will it or won't it? Weather forecasters for the past few days were trying to predict how much snow the metro area might get on Sunday. Now most weather models show the Northern Virginia area will likely see little if any snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for parts of Virginia south of Northern Virginia including Shenandoah, Page, Rappahannock and Culpeper counties, from Sunday morning through late Sunday night. 

The Capital Weather Gang, at 11:20 p.m. Friday said: "...in light of the latest model trends, we now favor the low scenario which is for less than 1 inch and possibly no snow Sunday in much of the metro region."

Storm4 Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer tweeted: "Even more data now says almost NADA for DC. Again, I say bummer!!"

ABC7 Meterologist Bob Ryan's forecast Friday night: "Not looking likely for much snow in DC....the trend is certainly keeping this system more to our South and looking less likely we'll see any snow accumulation from this storm"

"Sorry no sledding" Ryan tweeted at about 11:30 Friday night.

Sunny skies with highs near 40 are expected Monday, Presidents Day, a federal holiday.
