Scouting for Cub Scouts

Pack 1900 is searching for new members

There's a new pack in town, Cub Scouts Pack 1900 of Lorton. For young boys, joining the Cub Scouts is a great way to make new friends and pick up skills that are not always part of elementary school education. According to Cub Master, Adam Dameron, "We learn about citizenship, physical fitness and outdoor skills. We do a lot of crafts and games and other activities too."

Cub Scout Pack 1900 currently has 2 dens, one for 1st graders and the other for 2nd and 3rd graders. "We welcome any boy that wants to join," said Dameron. According to Dameron, they are looking to grow and add new grade levels up to 5th grade. After 5th grade, Cub Scouts traditionally advance to Boy Scouts. He anticipates that in the future, the Mason Neck area will have enough participation to offer a Boy Scout Troop too.

If Pack 1900 sounds familiar to locals, it is because this same pack was active from the 70s to early 90s, but dissolved as the years went on. Revitalizing Pack 1900 was a "collaborative effort between some [Mason Neck community] neighbors," said Dameron. Pack 1900 is special to Dameron, as he was a member of this Pack when he was a boy. Now 34, Dameron has his own son, and the two of them can share their experiences together with the rebirth of Ppack 1900.

Boys who join Pack 1900 this year can look forward to attending a local football game, helping with some community service projects and exploring the Mason Neck area. Dameron believes with the area's abundance of local parks, "the Mason Neck area is a natural place to have a Pack."

Cub Scout Pack 1900 is chartered by The Mason Neck Citizens Association (MNCA). In order to join the pack, you must be an MNCA member. Joining MCNA is easy, please visit www.masonneck.org.
