Patch Picks: Lorton Non-Profits

Volunteerism is key component of what Patch is all about. Several times a year Patch employees stop what they’re doing and give a day of their time to a cause that they care about. And being that February 17 is Random Act of Kindness Day, today seems like as good a day as any to point that out.

South County Cares is a faith-based organization led by Andy Casper that was founded in 2010. An offshoot of South County Church, South County Cares “aims to improve lives through random acts of kindness, services projects, health and safety training and all around family fun.” To learn more about South County Cares click .

The Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC) celebrated its 35th year in 2010 and is just getting better with age. Earlier this year they added a brand new food pantry and received the final installment of $2 million endowment from EnviroSolutions, Inc. The to approximately 3,000 people each year, whether it’s through food or clothing donations, financial assistance, or other kinds of aid to families in crisis.
