Mutts in Motion at Pohick Bay

The Paws for Fitness Expo and Dog Swim was also held

Dogs from across the region attended the first annual Mutts in Motion Dog Walk on Saturday, which was followed by the Paws for Fitness Expo and Dog Swim at Pohick Regional Park.

After a week of torrential rain, the ski turned bright and sunny for this inaugural event with over 90 walkers and their dogs enjoyed the one-mile scenic walk throughout the campground and along the Pohick Bay.

Following the walk, attendees enjoyed visiting with several rescue groups while their dogs played in the Bubble Lounge. The Expo and Pool opened at noon and the dogs began their play in earnest after their workout!  Leash-free, over 230 dogs enjoyed the beautiful large pool that NVRPA opened for their enjoyment. The Labs and Retrievers enjoyed the deepest parts of the pool bringing their balls and Frisbees back to their openers. The less adventurous enjoyed the shallow waters of the baby pool.

While the dogs got to play, the owners enjoyed chatting with over 15 vendors that showcased their products and services.  Overall, the day certainly went to the dogs!  Mark your calendars for next years’ event – the first Saturday after Labor Day, September 8, 2012!”
