Lorton's Michael Arnold, 59, Remembered as 'Nice', 'Quiet'

He had two sons and was married for over 30 years

Lorton's Michael Arnold, who was shot and killed at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, was described as quiet and polite by a neighbor in his Crosspointe community.

The 59-year-old Navy veteran was one of 12 people who was shot by former Navy Yard employee Aaron Alexis, who was killed at the scene.

"He was a nice man," said Arnold's neighbor Cindy Clark. "They were a quiet couple."

Palmer McClosky lives a few doors down did not know Arnold and was unaware that his neighbor was a victim of the shooting. "It is shocking to have it be someone in your own neighborhood," he said.

Arnold, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, retired last year as a captain. He was reportedly working at the Navy Yard on a team that designed amphibious assault ships.

Arnold was married for more than 30 years to Jolanda Arnold, and the couple have two sons.
