Libyan intelligence officer Abdelbaset Mohmed Ali al-Megrahi was later found guilty by a panel of three Scottish judges, and, in 2001, was sentenced to life in prison. Scotland freed Megrahi in 2009, after doctors reported he was dying of prostate cancer. He now lives in a villa in Tripoli.
