1. In Paris on this date in 1783, Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent broke from their earthly bonds with the first-ever untethered hot air balloon flight.

2. On Nov. 21, 1877, Thomas Edison told the World about his newest invention, the phonograph. A hundred years later, in 1977, the 19th Annual Grammy Awards were held. Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the Key of Life" won Album of the Year. 

3. On Nov. 21, 1953, the famed "Piltdown Man" skull was exposed by the British Museum as a hoax. For 40 years it was believed to be the link between apes and men in Britain. Known as Eoanthropus damson, the skull was, in fact, pieced together from an orangutang jawbone and a modern human skull.

4. Don't forget to pay your taxes. On Friday, James Miller, 67, of Lorton, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for withholding $1.7 million in federal taxes from his employees' paychecks. Miller was CEO of janitorial company Team, Inc. Miller pleaded guilty in August. 

5.
