Welcome to September 27! Here are five things you should know about today:

2. On this day in 1996, the Taliban captured the Afghan capital city of Kabul. President Burhanuddin Rabbani, who took office in 1992, was forced from power. He returned to office in November 2001, but was killed by the Taliban in a suicide bombing two months later.

3. Gwyneth Paltrow turns 39 today. Other Sept. 27 birthdays include American patriot Samuel Adams (1722-1803), Union General William "Bull" Nelson (1824-1862),  Wilford Brimley (b. 1934), singer Meatloaf (b. 1947) and actress Tamara Taylor (b. 1970).

4. The best place to see the leaves change isn't necessarily from Lorton Prison! Mason Neck State Park is open until nightfall, and is home to hundreds of acres of oak, holly and hickory trees. It also a refuge for bald eagles, blue herons and tundra swans.

5. There's a 70% chance of rain showers after 10:00 a.m. The high temperature will be about 80 degrees and the low will be 64. There is a 40% chance of rain in the evening, according to the National Weather Service.
