Here are five fun things to do in the Lorton area this weekend

It's the weekend and you're looking to have some fun. Patch can help with our top picks for activities in the Lorton area.

  • When: Saturday, Nov. 5, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Sunday Nov. 6, 10 a.m.
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Road, Lorton, Youth Arts Center
  • What: The Workhouse introduces the inaugural season of Studio 3 Theatre for Young Audiences! 
  • Cost: $12 for adults, $8 for children under 12.
  • When: Saturday, Nov. 5, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Where: Paradise Springs Winery, 13219 Yates Ford Road, Clifton
  • What: Fundraiser for the Humane Society of Fairfax County. Admission includes two glasses of wine and hors d’ouevres. Among the items to be auctioned: a seven-day trip to Bermuda and a bowling party for 40.  
  • Cost: $40 in advance, $45 at the door
  • When: Saturday, Nov. 5, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Road, Lorton. Gallery Building, 2nd Floor
  • What: The Workhouse Arts Center's ArtNotes concert series presents the U.S. Navy Band's Windjammers Woodwind Quintet. The Windjammers woodwind quintet maintains a varied repertoire dating from the 18th to the 20th centuries. 
  • Cost: Free, but tickets are required. Unused seats will open to the public 15 minutes prior to the concert.

Lorton Farmers Market

  • When: Sunday, Nov. 6, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where: Lorton VRE Station, 8990 Lorton Station Blvd., Lorton
  • What: It’s the last Sunday of the season for the Lorton Farmers Market. Shop for locally grown fresh produce, meats and baked goods.
  • When: Sunday, Nov. 6, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Road, Lorton
  • What:  Awards ceremony and artists’ reception for the 2011 Shades of Pastel national juried exhibition, which runs through Nov. 20 at the Workhouse Arts Center. Prior to the reception, Judge Liz Haywood-Sullivan will give a pastel demonstration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.   
  • Cost: The reception is free. Admission to the judge’s demonstration is $35.
