Here are five fun things to do in the Lorton area this weekend

It's the weekend and you're looking for things to do. Patch can help with our picks for five fun activities in the Lorton area.

  • When: Friday, Oct. 21, 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: South County Secondary School, 8501 Silverbrook Road, Lorton
  • What: Cheer on the Stallions as they host West Springfield at homecoming. Get an early start on the festivities at the homecoming parade from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Cost: $5
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 22, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 23, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: South Run RECenter, 7550 Reservation Drive, Springfield
  • What: More than 50 artisans will display their wares at South Run RECenter’s annual Arts and Crafts Show. There will be activities and crafts in the field house for children ages 4 to 12.
  • Cost: Admission is $3, children 12 and under free. Get $1 off admission with a canned or boxed food donation for the Lorton Community Action Center.
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 22, and Sunday, Oct. 23, beginning at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Burke Lake Park, 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station
  • What: Take a Halloween train ride through Burke Lake Park. Appropriate for children ages 2 to 10. Children under 6 must have adult supervision.
  • Cost: $4.50, children under 2 ride for free. Last ticket sold at 4:15; last train leaves at 5:15.
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: 17755 Main St., Dumfries
  • What: Stroll Main Street in Dumfries and enjoy the wares of more than 45 artisans, various food vendors, four Virginia wineries and a kid’s corner.
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 23, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Where: Halley Elementary School, 8850 Cross Chase Circle, Fairfax Station
  • What:  Join the fun as the Halley PTO sponsors its 3rd Annual BuzzAbout 5k/1 Mile Fun Run. Show your holiday spirit and come dressed in your Halloween costume for a chance to win special prizes.  All proceeds benefit Halley Elementary.
  • Cost: Race day registration is $25 for the 5k and $15 for the 1 Mile.
