Here are five fun things to do in the Lorton area this weekend

It’s the weekend and you’re looking for fun things to do. Patch can help with our top picks for activities in the Lorton area.

  • When: Friday, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Where: Lake Accotink Park, 7500 Accotink Park Rd., Springfield
  • What: The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra’s Brass Quintet performs classical selections. Concerts are canceled if it is raining. Flashlights are recommended because the park does not have lighting.
  • Cost: Free

Fairfax County 4-H Fair and Frying Pan Park Farm Show

  • When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Frying Pan Farm Park, 2709 West Ox Rd., Herndon.
  • What:  It’s billed as the Fairfax County fair with all the animals, exhibits, rides and food one would expect to find at an old-time fair.
  • Cost: $5 for parking. Admission to the exhibit hall is free but you’ll need money for the rides.
  • When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Where:  Home Depot, 7710 Richmond Highway, Alexandria.
  • What:  Children ages 5 to 12 will learn how to make a pencil box. Each child also will receive a kid-sized orange apron, like the ones worn by Home Depot employees.
  • Cost: Free 
  • When: Saturday, 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Where: Mason Neck State Park, 7301 High Point Rd., Lorton.
  • What:  Take a canoe trip on Kane’s Creek and watch for bald eagles and other wildlife. Call the park for more information and reservations, 703-339-2380. Meet at the park office.
  • Cost: $15 per person, $9 if part of a group.

  • When: Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Rd., Lorton.
  • What: Explore the Workhouse Explorers Visual Arts Campers’ artwork on display around the Quad archways. In the Performance Tent, listen to the Nitehawks Swing, the young students of Workhouse music instructor Gregg Smith and the LMproject Crew presented by Reston Community Players.
  • Cost: Free
