Here are five fun things to do in the Lorton area this weekend

It's the weekend, and you're looking for fun things to do. Patch can help with our top picks for activities in the Lorton area.

  • When: Saturday and Sunday. Battle begins at 9:15 a.m., Patch recommends arriving at the parking area no later than 8 a.m.
  • Where; Pageland Farm in Gainesville, adjacent to the Manassas National Battlefield Park. However, you must park at Jiffy Lube Live, 7800 Cellar Door Dr. in Bristow, and be shuttled to the reenactment site. Shuttle buses begin running at 6 a.m.
  • What: Relive history at the reenactment commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Battle of First Manassas (Bull Run). Nearly 8,700 reenactors and 375 cavalry horses will restage the battle. While on the “battlefield,” visit military troop encampments and medical tents, play games, meet period craftsmen and enjoy music of the era. Food and drink will be sold, along with uniforms, hats, leather goods, replica equipment and other memorabilia.
  • Cost: Tickets start at $24 for adults and $15 for children and can be purchased online at www.manassasbullrun.com.

   

  • When: Friday, 10 a.m. to noon.
  • Where: Parade begins at Manassas Museum and winds through the streets of Old Town Manassas on its way to Liberia Plantation via Portner Avenue for a military review.
  • What: Civil War reenactors who are taking part in events this weekend commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War parade military-style.

  • When: Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Where: 6050 Gorgas Rd., Fort Belvoir. Enter through Tully Gate. You must show ID.
  • What: Celebrate the Fort Belvoir Military Installation and surrounding communities with prizes, food and music. Former Washington Redskins player Doc Walker will be among those at the event, which takes place between the commissary and post exchange.
  • When: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Rd., Lorton
  • What:  Clifton Film Fest showcases original films made in Northern Virginia. Students between the ages of 13 and 21 and adults submitted short films between three and eight minutes long, and the top films will be shown.
  • Cost: $5

  • Where: Mason Neck State Park, 7301 High Point Rd., Lorton, at the picnic area
  • What: Make and eat delicious butter like the kind that George Mason’s family might have enjoyed.
