Get Out: Weekend Planner

Here are five fun things to in the Lorton area this weekend

  1. Cinema Under the Stars
  • When: Friday, 7:30 p.m., 9601 Ox Rd., Lorton
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center
  • What: The Workhouse Arts Center kicks off its summer film series with “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick  Rules.” There will be music, games and a special “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” trivia contest starting at 7:30; the movie begins at 8:30. Pizza, snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
  • Cost: $5

2.   More Cinema Under the Stars

  • When: Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Rd., Lorton
  • What: Sing along to hits from the musical “Grease.” Belt out such tunes as “Beauty School Dropout, “ Greased Lightning” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” in the Performance Tent.
  • Cost: $5

3. 

  • When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Where: Occoquan Regional Park, 9751 Ox Rd., Lorton
  • What:  Celebrate the Occoquan River and its resources at the second annual River Fest. Have fun while learning what makes the Occoquan River so unique and important. There will be activities for the entire family. The “Miss Rivershore” boat will provide free rides between the park and the town of Occoquan, which also is celebrating River Fest.

  • When: Sunday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where: Gunston Hall Plantation, 10709 Gunston Rd., Lorton
  • What:  George Mason’s family and friends discuss politics, play games and show off their domestic skills in 1787 Virginia. Visitors encouraged to participate.
  • Cost: Admission to Gunston Hall, $9 for adults; $8 for seniors, military and AAA members, $5 for children.

5. 

  • When: Sunday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Where:  Lake Ridge Park, 12350 Cotton Mill Dr., Woodbridge
  • What: Everything your family needs to learn about geocaching , from how to get started to what type of equipment you need. Apply what you have learned by looking for a cache.
  • Cost: $25 for a family of four, $5 for each additional person.
