Get Out: Weekend Planner

Five fun things to do in the Lorton area this weekend

  • When: Friday, 7 p.m.
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Rd., Lorton
  • What:  Urban Decay Artist Gregg Deal presents his alternative means to creating, producing, marketing, and selling art work in a digital age.
  • Cost: The event is free but reservations are required. Add a light dinner for $5 and drinks will be available at a cash bar.

  • When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: 125 Mill St., Occoquan
  • What: The 2011 Occoquan Spring Arts and Craft Show will be held on the streets of Occoquan’s Historic District, featuring crafters and artisans from the area and across the country.

  • When: Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon
  • Where: 10207 Old Colchester Rd., Lorton
  • What: Help tie the new hiking-biking trail into the trailhead at Old Colchester Road by raking, cutting roots and landscaping. Wear work boots or sturdy, closed-toe footwear and outdoor work clothes and bring a water bottle. Gloves, bug spray, tools and food will be provided.

  • When: Saturday, 4 p.m.
  • Where: Pohick Church, 9301 Richmond Highway, Lorton
  • What: Sing hymns and hear the Choir of Pohick, the Pohick Bell Choir, the Pohick Pickers, the St. Cecelia St. Alban Choir and the St. Francis Choir in concert.

  • When: Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Where: 7500 Accotink Park Rd., Springfield
  • What: The Cardboard Boat Regatta takes place at Lake Accotink Park at 2 p.m. Whether you’re racing or just watching, it’s fun to see who will sink or float. Vendors will be selling food.
    • Cost: There will be a one-day parking fee due to anticipated crowds. Or park just outside the park entrance and take a free shuttle bus from noon to 6 p.m.
