Don’t let the threat of rain keep you from having a good time this weekend. Here are five fun things to do in the Lorton area:
- Railroad buffs won’t want to miss 40th Anniversary Exhibit Train Preview. The exhibit train showcases Amtrak history over the decades and is stopping in Lorton this weekend. See it Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Sell a few items, buy some new things or just browse and support the Class of 2014 at the same time. South County will hold its 2011 Spring Cleaning Yard Sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donate your items or buy a parking space and sell your items.
- Hopefully the rain will hold off for two other community yard sales on Saturday. is holding its sale along Windermere Hill Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. And the community is holding a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as well. Be sure to drive around the entire community.
- You won’t be able to get in the water but Saturday is You can purchase season passes at a discount and tour the facilities from noon to 4 p.m.
- The is sponsoring its sixth charity trail ride and mounted scavenger hunt Sunday at Pohick Bay Regional Park. Suggested donation to participate is $25 and proceeds benefit Simple Changes Therapeutic Riding Center. Check in is at 10 a.m. and the ride should take about two hours.
