Five great things to do in Lorton this weekend

Lorton Patch has you covered with five great things to do this weekend in the Lorton area:

  1. Get into the swing of things tonight at Lorton Station Town Center. It’s at Lorton Station from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The second Friday Night in the Courtyard features professional dancers from the ‘Gotta Swing’ dance group. There will be swing dance lessons and a costume competition for the adults, while children will enjoy a scavenger hunt and Mr. Twister and his balloon animals. The event is free but you’re asked to bring canned food items for Lorton Community Action Center.
  2. The Northern Virginia Players put their spin on the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic “,” which opens tonight at the New Hope Church, 8905 Ox Road. Performances tonight and Saturday night are at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
  3. is on tap Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon. It’s run by the senior high mission trip team to raise money for a summer mission trip. Items for sale include clothes, furniture, electronics, things for baby, toys, bicycles, kitchen goods and seasonal items.
  4. What better way to honor mom on her special day than with lunch and a play? The has a special Mother’s Day matinee performance Sunday of “Big River.” Doors open at 1 p.m.
  5. is Picturing Mothers on Mother’s Day. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, a silhouette artist will cut family keepsake images. Admission to Gunston Hall is free for mothers and grandmothers but there will be a charge for the silhouettes.
