Get Out: Weekend Planner

This weekend is going to be awesome

It's the weekend and you're looking to have some fun. Patch can help with our picks for fun activities in and around Lorton. 

  • When: Friday, Dec. 16, Saturday, Dec. 17 and Sunday, Dec. 18, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Where: Virginia Halls Baptist Church, 6507 Telegraph Road, Alexandria
  • What: “Follow the Star” and travel back to first century Judea to witness the story of Christ unfold. Each car receives hot chocolate and a CD narration describing six scenes that depict the biblical account of the first Christmas.
  • Cost: Free but donations are welcome
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 17, 8 a.m.
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Road, Lorton
  • What: Eat gingerbread pancakes with Santa Claus in Studio 3. Then head to the theatre for a performance of “Schoolhouse Rock Live!”
  • Cost: $24 for adults and $20 for children includes breakfast, show, and photograph with Santa Claus.
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18, 8:30 a.m.
  • Where: Pink Bicycle Tea Room, 303 Commerce St., Occoquan
  • What: Join Santa for breakfast. Enjoy fresh baked scones, pastries and fruit with your choice of tea, hot chocolate or milk.
  • Cost: $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 10 and under. Reservations recommended.
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 17, 9 a.m.
  • Where: Cranford United Methodist Church, 9912 Old Colchester Road, Lorton
  • What: Enjoy pancakes and sausage, games, crafts, stories and, of course, a visit with Santa Claus. Please call ahead to 703-339-5382 to reserve a spot so the church can have enough food and goodie bags.
  • Cost: Free
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18, beginning at 11 a.m., until 2 p.m.
  • Where: Town of Occoquan Wharf, 205 Mill St., Occoquan
  • What: Come along for the ride as Santa Claus travels the Occoquan River aboard Miss Rivershore. Trips last 30 to 40 minutes.  Miss Rivershore is glass enclosed and heated so this event will take place rain or shine.
  • Cost:  $12 for adults and $6 for children. Reservations required.
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 17, 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Road, Lorton
  • What:  Bring someone special for an evening of cooking and romance. Work side by side to create dinner for two. Make it dinner and dancing and come at 7 for a ballroom lesson.
  • Cost: $30 per person for dinner, add $5 per person for dancing.
