5 things to do near Lorton this weekend

The weekend cannot get here soon enough.  This weekend highlights musical performances and volunteer opportunities.  Here’s five things that are close enough by that your weekend won’t be spent sitting on I-95 in traffic.

1. The Workhouse Film Institute presents, “Herb and Dorothy” on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.. This is a film about a couple’s vast collection of art, which is on display at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.   To purchase tickets click .

2. Music will fill the Workhouse on Saturday night, when performs. These three talented women show case their variety of ethnic folk styles. Tickets are $15-$20 and can be purchased online.

3. Saturday, from 9am – 2pm, Glory Days will host the fourth annual.  The entry fee is $25 and includes breakfast, a raffle ticket, and door prizes.

4. If you feel like venturing into Alexandria, the is Saturday night The First Baptist Church of Alexandria. Seats are $17 and include dessert.

5. Are you having a hard time sticking to your New Year’s Resolution to lose weight? Head over to in Lorton Station and try out one of their free introductory classes. Classes are at 12:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Heck, after you burn all those calories go next door and have brunch at .
