FBI To Test Explosives Today In Lorton

Don't be alarmed if you hear a boom

 

Don't be alarmed if you hear some loud booms in Lorton!

The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Explosives Unit will use the Lorton Reformatory Juvenile Correctional Facility on Furnace Road on Thursday to test explosives for an upcoming terrorism trial. Test will occur between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m.

"The explosive test shot... needs to occur inside a building so that it may be used in court," said Mark Whitworth of the FBI in an email. The test "will result in an audible explosion that might be heard in neighborhoods in close proximity to the facility, but the test itself will be confined to the building where the test is being conducted."

The Lorton Reformatory facility is for training.
