Fairfax County Leaf Collection Continues

"Area 8" pickup is this week. Look for yellow leaf vacuum signs in your neighborhood.

Fairfax County residents living south of Little River Turnpike and I-495 should rake their leaves to the curb this weekend. "Area 8" collection starts Thursday, Nov. 29.

The full scheduled for all areas of Fairfax County is available here

The county advises though that specific collection dates are difficult to project as they are affected by weather, rate of leaf-drop and various other factors.

The leaf collection program is for leaves only. (Leaves mixed with brush, rocks, tree trimmings, sticks or trash will be left behind, the county notes.)

  • Place the leaves no further than four feet from the edge of the streetline.
  • Please remove all debris from leaves prior to set-out.
  • Leaves raked out after the last scheduled round of collection will not be picked-up.
  • Do not block streets or pile leaves over storm drains or ditches.
  • Do not block leaf piles with cars or any type of equipment that could limit our accessibility to the pile or create hazardous conditions.
  • Do not park vehicles on piles of leaves — this is a fire hazard!

If you have other questions, please call the Trash/Leaf Collection Office. Customer Service is available Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. by calling 703-802-3322, TTY 711.

In the 7 years of living here, I've never seen the yellow leaf signs. Would love to just rake to the curb like I did in Alexandria for all those years. Area 8 is a pretty big area, is there any way to ensure Martha Washington Street gets on this schedule?

First of all, you need to know whether your area receives this service. For those that do, there's a bit more taken from you in property taxes. Last I tried to figure it out, long ago, it seemed about $60 to $80 a year additional.
If you get this service, I expect your neighbors already have some leaves at the curb.

Very interesting article! I would only correct Rob's math--a posted speed limit of 160 kilometersRead More per hour is equal to 99 miles per hour, not 80. And 220 km/hr equals 136 mph--no wonder his knuckles were white,

Yes, did not do the conversion correctly. When on the road, I just use the 50% figure for a roughRead More estimate. 136 was not too much fun! Thanks,
