Saturdays

 

The Wonders of Nature

Come absorb some of the movements of animals in the great outdoors.

Event Time: 10:30 am - 11:30 pm

Distance: 1 mile hike

Meeting:  Bay view Trail head

Pond Patrol

Join the scientific investigation. Dip nets and buckets into the pond to catch minnows, crayfish and more.

Event Time: 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm

Meeting:  large pond by car top boat launch.

 

Got Butter?

Come make and eat delicious fresh butter. The rich creamy is excellent and similar to the butter enjoyed by George Mason's family.

Event Time: 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm

Meeting: Picnic area.

GPS Adventures

Come join us on this one mile hike with park GPS units.  We'll experience

nature while searching for hidden caches!  This program is most appropriate for ages six and up.  Maximum of 10 people. First come, first served.

 

Event Time: 2:30 - 4:30 pm

Meeting: Visitor Center.

 

Majestic Eagles

Look for bald eagles, osprey and red-tailed hawks with us, and learn about their fascinating lives.

Event Time: 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Meeting:  Visitor Center.

 

Sundays

 

A Walk on the Wild Side

Step into the world of eagles, osprey, and owls. This hike will travel through the diverse environment these bids live in.

Event Time: 10:30 am - 11:30 pm

Meeting:  Bay view Trail head.

 

Recycle for the birds

If you think about some of the stuff we throw away each day, you'll realize that many containers can be used several times by finding creative ways to reuse them. In this activity, you'll see how to turn food containers into a nice feeder for the birds.

Event Time: 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm

Meeting: Picnic area.

Feathers and Furs

Check out real furs, skulls, and bones of animals that live in the park.  Do you know what a fox skull looks like?

Event Time: 2:00 - 2:30 pm

Meeting:  Picnic Area

 

Making Tracks

Identify tracks of native animals to Mason Neck, then using plaster and foot molds, make tracks of these very animals.
Event Time: 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Meeting:  Picnic Area
