Do You Know Eddie Beahm, Lorton's Hubcap King?

"I still can't drive by a hubcap on the road and not pick it up."

The hubcap business isn't what it used to be. But you can rest assured that in case one or all of them mysteriously disappears from your ride that Eddie Beahm of Lorton, who sells them from his home, will answer your call for help.

"The hubcap business is a dying business, because most hubcaps are bolted on," said Beahm to Patch. "But I still can't drive by a hubcap on the road and not pick it up."

Drive down to 8301 Lorton Rd. (a stones throw from the Inova Lorton Healthplex) and you'll see the sign "Hubcaps For Sale - 703-690-3022."

Beahm, 57, a lifelong Lortoner, has been selling hubcaps since he was 12 years old.

"I was decorating my dad's workroom in the basement with hubcaps and I kept finding neater and neater ones on the side of the road," he said. "I started keeping them outside and my mom suggested that I put a sign out to sell them - probably just to get rid of them."

A single hubcap will run you about $25, said Beahm, who retired five years ago at Lorton's Noman M. Cole Wastewater Treatment Plant.

"My biggest sellers are for Toyota Corollas. They're made so cheap. The clips holding the caps break off," he said.

Beahm, who stores hundreds of the hubcaps in several storage containers on his 2.5 acre property, carries just about every foreign and domestic brand you need.

"I've been doing this for over 40 years," he said. "I'm always around, even if you just have a question."
