Amtrak's 40th Anniversary Exhibit Train in Lorton Saturday and Sunday

Second stop on nationwide tour

Today and tomorrow Amtrak will celebrate its 40th anniversary in Lorton. 2011 marks the 40th Anniversary of Amtrak and the rail service is celebrating with a national tour that features an Exhibit Train. The tour began last weekend in Washington, DC and continues through the end of July, with the the first leg winding up in Providence, RI. The tour continues throughout the year at locations across the country.

The highlight of the tour is the Exhibit Train which showcases Amtrak history over the decades, displaying memorabilia like vintage advertising, past menus and dinnerware, and period uniforms. The Exhibit Train will also feature train-themed kids’ activities at Chuggington Kids Depot, and feature characters from the popular train-based television series. In addition, commemorative 40th anniversary merchandise will be available for purchase onboard the train.

During the celebration, kids aged 2 to 15 who had tickets pre-purchased will ride free on Amtrak for the 40 days between May 1 and June 9.
