Col. Gregory Gadson, Fort Belvoir's Garrison Commander, is participating in a six-day 250-mile Soldier Ride bike ride in the United Kingdom.

Soldier Rides, part of the Wounded Warrior Project, are long-distance rides that build camaraderie and build confidence for Wounded Warriors.

Gadson, 46, is  riding an adaptive hand cycle with 30 other amputee soldiers from the U.S. and U.K.

Gadson, 46, lost his legs after a roadside explosion in Iraq in May, 2007, and is the first double amputee to command a major U.S. military installation. He is also a motivational speaker and actor, having co-starred in the action movie "Battleship".

Incidentally, the photos above were taken on Oct. 10, 2013 at Cross-in-Hand, East Sussix.
