December Chocolate Decadence at the Ritz: Eat Your Heart Out. No, Really.

Article describes the Chocolate Decadence event held at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington D.C. as well as gives info on how to make reservations.

The Aztecs called it “the food of gods” and researchers from around the world have labeled it a one of a kind sugary pleasure. Not only has chocolate been linked to happiness, increased sexual desire and, if you eat enough of it, an antioxidant, but let’s be honest, chocolate is one of life’s staples.

My Pledge to Chocolate

For one whole week this December (meaning Monday-Friday,) I will eat a protein shake or smoothie for breakfast, a healthy lunch and salads topped with lean meat or fish for dinner. There will be no sugar in my coffee, no walk-by cookie snatching and certainly no Mint Chip scoop to settle in after dinner. For one week,, my readership as my witness, I hereby pledge my allegiance to chocolate.

Why, you ask, am I testing the limits of my routine indulgence in food, love and all that is naughty? Well, a few days ago I was let in on a little D.C. secret. One I feel deserves to be shared.

Eat Your Ritzy Heart Out

Every Saturday in December, the 3rd, 10th, 17th and the 24th from 8 to 11 p.m., the Lobby Café of D.C.’s Ritz-Carlton will be transformed into a chocolate lover’s wet dream.

Ritz-Carlton Pastry Chef Daniel Mangione is the orchestrator behind this glorious all-you-can-eat Chocolate Decadence buffet. He has assured me of the following: There will be three types of hot chocolate, two fountains, yes two, both Swiss chocolate and strawberry, chocolate waffles, crepes, cookies, flavored truffles, fudge, flan, cheesecake, chocolate peppermint yule logs (bless their existence,) panna cotta and a modern brownie sundae, just to name a few.

The Cost of Indulgence Ain’t Much

For only $35 a person, you with a gaggle of girls or you and your equally indulgent lover can casually sway around the endless and intoxicating display of Chocolate Decadence. Enjoy an evening with a glass of bubbly in one hand and a truffle in the other. Drinks are not included but there will be a dotting Champagne sommelier present so as to assist in a perfect pairing. (Prices vary from $16-$25 per glass.)

This well-deserved caloric intake is by reservation only, so make sure to get yours in advance.

For reservation’s call (202) 835-0500, and tell them you’d like to book your spot for Chocolate Decadence.
