2. You Said It: “Let the people hunt good meat!” A reader reacting to word that park officials are considering various methods to reduce the deer population at Manassas Battlefield Park. Elaine wrote, “I don't favor giving the deer birth control substances to eat because I think it would just put chemicals in their bodies that shouldn't be eaten by people.”

4. Number of the Day: $29 million. That’s how much the City of Fredericksburg would expect the Haggerstown Suns to invest in a new stadium if the ballclub relocates its Washington Nationals franchise. The proposal will now work its way through the City Council approval process.

5. Today…in History: On Aug. 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in the Gulf Coast. The storm and related flooding killed more than 1,800 people. Forecasters expect an above-average hurricane season for 2013, but not to the level of 2005.
