South County High School

Lorton, VA (April 23, 2024) - The South County High School (SCHS) Theatre Department is planning for another fabulous musical production in the first two weekends of May with Singin’ in the Rain. Adapted from the 1952 movie starring Gene Kelly, Singin’ in the Rain opened in London in 1983. The show centers around silent film star, Don Lockwood, whose career is changing due to the rise of talking pictures. When Don and his silent film costar, Lina Lamont, are forced to make their next film into a talkie, chaos and hilarity ensue as Don and his friend Cosmo Brown seek ways to mask Lina’s grating voice. This includes secretly dubbing over her voice with Kathie Selden’s, who is a talented newcomer who Don begins to fall for while filming. 
In addition to the leading roles, South County has a talented ensemble who is positioned to sing and dance its hearts out. To cover this dance-heavy show, they are leveraging two different dance teachers as well as student choreographers to dazzle audiences with impressive, Broadway-style numbers. “The students have been working hard on developing many new skills both in dance and in tech. I cannot wait for them to perform!” said Molly Rumberger, the South County High School Theatre Arts teacher and show director. 
Many of the famous songs from the movie like “Good Morning” and “Make ‘Em Laugh” are also in the stage show; as well as “Singing in the Rain.” Likewise, the theatre tech students have had their work cut out for them as they design and create a set, costumes, and props that are authentic to the show’s story. Similarly, they have a variety of technical elements including lights, sound effects, and film to enhance the storytelling. 
Singin’ in the Rain performances will be held at 7 pm on May 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th and 10th&nbsp;and a Saturday matinee show at 2 pm in the school auditorium. South County’s Theatre’s Department Makes a Splash with Singin’ in the Rain

Bring your family and friends to the 10th annual Purcellville Music and Arts Festival on Saturday, April 27 from noon to 7 p.m., rain or shine. This free, family-friendly event, held at Fireman’s Field Park located at 250 South Nursery Avenue, will feature 15 live music and performances on four stages, an art exhibit, games, and other activities. There will also be more than 25 local artisan vendors and non-profit organizations, along with more than 10 food and drink vendors.&nbsp;
On the day of the festival, the Bush Tabernacle Skating Rink will be transformed into the Art Hall. Inside, there will be works of art on display from local/regional artists, performances, an art demonstration, and activities. Pick up a festival scavenger hunt booklet while you’re there and complete it to win a prize! The festival will also feature games for all ages, face painting, glitter tattoos, sidewalk chalk art, and t-shirt decorating. Handcrafted jewelry, candles, wooden items, skincare items, food, drink, and more will be available for purchase. Several local organizations will have displays and information.&nbsp;

Join us at Gunston Hall as we commemorate the 248th anniversary of the 1776 Virginia Declaration of Rights. In writing this document, George Mason took some of the first steps in American history to make this country and the world a better place. They were not perfect steps. Mason owned slaves his entire life and the rights in the Declaration applied to a specific segment of society. Countless people have since worked to make the ideals of the Declaration a reality for everyone.
This program will happen rain or shine. In the event of rain, some activities may move indoors. 

This program is complimentary for all attendees. Some experiences will require a complimentary, timed ticket which may be picked up the day of the event.
