I hate when a television show has this type of episode: A couple is about to exchange gifts for Christmas or Valentine’s Day or their anniversary. The man has blown hundreds of dollars on some gorgeous earrings and the woman has constructed a home-made card and knitted the poor sap a potholder. One of two things happens next; either the woman gets wind of the expensive gift coming her way, panics and heads to Best Buy to throw electronics at the problem, or they open their presents together and the man has to reassure her that he loves the potholder. Nobody is perfectly well-rounded, that’s a fact. I think that’s part of what makes dating fun. When you meet someone, you get to size them up. What are their hidden talents? What are they best at? What situations do they run from? Some of these discoveries will effectively end a relationship while others will endear someone to you forever. The key is finding someone who complements your gifts (a nice way of saying rounds out your shortcomings).
