Sunday was the first day of the National Weather Service’s 12th Lightning Safety Awareness Week, June 24-30, 2012. Since the campaign began, the average number of lightning deaths in the U.S. has decreased from 73 to 54. Here in Lorton, it was another fairly dry week.  Less than a tenth of an inch of rain fell - where we normally receive ¾”.
