Visions for Vacancies: 7742 Gunston Plaza in Lorton

What kind of business do you want to see here?

There's an open storefront at 7742 Gunston Plaza! The small shop was home to Parcel Plus for over a decade, and is next door to the Seoul Taekwondo Academy

The landlord didn't get back to us, so the square footage of the space remains in question. There are no signs of renovations in the center unit space, and it's smaller than most properties in the plaza. The location has plenty of parking, however, and shares hundreds of spaces with neighboring businesses.

Are you following us on Facebook and Twitter? It takes less than a minute...

Gunston Plaza is home to the Polo Grill Restaurant, the Department of Motor Vehicles, Gunston Flowers and more than a dozen shops and restaurants.

A coffee spot would be great... Doesn't have to be a Starbucks but a comfortable spot to meet friends would be great. That plaza has lots of things for a busy family You drop off a package, workout, reg your car, grab a bite to eat, now adding an ice cream joint. Lets have a place to "stop" and have a cup of coffee and chat w/a friend.

I thought the Polo Grill Restaurant shut down with plans (on-going construction) to be replaced by IHOP?

I vote for a Dunkin Donuts. I love their coffee and it would be more convenient than driving to Springfield or Woodbridge for my fix. :)

Linda, I hadn't heard about the Polo Grill being replaced by an IHOP. That would be great. Debbie's idea for a Dunkin Donuts is a good one, too. But there's already a Caribou Coffee nearby, where you can get good coffee (and snacks) without having to learn a foreign language like you do at the elitist Starbucks.

For those of you who may not have tried Korean cuisine, it's really good and really healthy, too (actually better than Chinese, which I also like), so I guess I would like to see a Mom and Pop Korean restaurant go in the vacant space. Right now, my closest Korean food fix is all the way down off of Smoketown Road, off of the PW Pkwy.

You can get a small offering of Korean food at the Father and Son's Seafood next to Rite Aid in Gunston Plaza.

I would also go for a dunkin donuts or a Panera.

I think that a hardware store would be most useful! Treks to Home Depot in Springfield or Lowes in Woodbridge for simple nuts-and-bolts items are a pain. Before we moved here, we lived near an Ace Hardware that we could walk to. LOTS more home projects got done a whole lot quicker since we didn't have to drive 20 minutes.

When Lorton Plaza first opened, there was also a hardware store. The two men who ran it had no idea of the type/kind of hardware "Harry Homeowner" would need. They were thinking comstruction tools, rather than hammers, plyers, saws etc.for a new homeowner. They didn't last more than a month orso before they were gone. A major lumber dealer who set up shop more or less where the basketball court is now didn't last more than a few months. The bookstore about where the fish place is now didn't last three months. No real book readers around here then. - Home depot in Springfield - there is a Home depot in Woodbridge on Minnieville Road and Lowes across on the corner of Minnieville and Smoketown is usefull also. Both stores have garden centers with tools as well as plants of all kinds. My thoughts are for a shop to fix and tune up garden equipment. There isn't anyone to tend those motorized garden tools. I've got a couple of tools which would work if there was someone to take of my tools.

A restaurant ...have to say one of the best places for burgers is Fosters Grill...would love to see that or a Panera, Pei Wei, or Chipotle...they always do well as they have fresh fast food.

Seems to be unfinished. Most interest would more than likely be this summer.

A hardware store, like the old Fischers, would be great and I would like to see a boutique style clothing store; there is nothing like either one that is closeby. Since I work at Lorton Senior Center, I know how important and convenient the shops in Gunston Plaza are to the members and the center too. The Senior Center becomes a one-stop-shop, where most of their essential business can be taken care of while attending the senior center. They are frequent customers of the post office, grocery store, pharmacy, hair & nail salons, bank and physical therapist. The Dollar Tree and restaurants are a favorite, they go daily. A clothing store may complete their shopping needs.
