Northern Virginia could see a warm, damp start to the week, according to the National Weather Service. There is also a possibility for fog early Monday morning. The weather forecast predicts a 40 percent chance of rain Monday, with the possibility of seeing a thunderstorm.

The last shooting star cluster before New Year's is the Geminid Meteor Shower, expected to peak in the pre-dawn hours after midnight between Thursday and Saturday. The new moon guarantees a dark sky on the peak night of the Geminid shower, according to earthsky.org.
