Lorton Patch was at the Lorton Market Street shopping center as residents picked up groceries, sipped iced coffees and enjoyed a gorgeous summer day. We asked locals what they would like to see built on the empty lot on the corner of Lorton Road and Lorton Market Road – or what they felt was missing from Lorton in general.

Arby's or Taco Bell, please. We need some kind of drive through right off the interstate and near the auto train; there should be better variety in the drive thru offered in this area. People often detour into our neighborhood looking for McDonald's, so put something right in their face at I-95 and the tracks.
Plus, regardless of what goes in there, make the left turn into Shoppers a no U-turn to make sure that busy spot isn't more congested. It is easy to figure out the confused interstate driver; please don't make building something on that tight corner more dangerous.

I would like to see a Red Lobster if the lot is big enough. If not, then a Kentucky Fried Chicken or PopEyes Chicken.

I would like to see some kind of drive-thru other than the norm, but my son would like to have a Game Stop a little closer than Kingstown ... imagine that?!

What about a Jason's Deli? There's nothing like that anywhere nearby. We need some reasonably healthy choices in the area.

I would love to see a Chickfila or Panera Bread with a drive thru. Lorton is in desperate need of decent fast food.

a new safety complex police station/ fire station with large meeting room or banquet facility , that actually fits the new trucks . OR maybe cater to older out of state visitors waiting for the auto train for the 4 hours that they are here. . there are several food estanlishments that are struggling in the shopping centers already

For a short while we had two policemen on bicycles in that little shopping area behind where the doctor's office is now. There was a place for an officer to sit at a desk and answer the phone. It disappeared within about three months. Gunston Plaza was a place for young men to sit on railings in front of the grocery store and make comments at the people going and coming. The grocery was the center of thefts and closed. Nobody wanted to go into it. We had a bookstore for a while, but it folded quickly. The whole plaza has been iffy, since it first opened. The only places I go are the post office and the Dominoes Pizza. I've eaten at the grill a couple of times, okay, I guess. I've shopped a few times at the Dollar Store. I miss a hardware store where I would be able to find materials, screws, screen wire, that sort of thing for repairs around the house and yard. We don't need more junk types of things - we need shops who can provide what a homeowner needs to maintain their homes. I hate to go all the way to Lowes or Home Depot for what I need and have to figure out where are the items I need in the mess in either store. I don't see much shopping in the Plaza or Lorton Market. Take a close look at what we do have a figure out whether they are shops you are in need or or willing to shop at. I don't.

At least, the stench of the sewage plant seems to have been controlled! Barnes and Noble! What a wonderful thought! Maybe a Starbucks as is part of the Springfield Store. It is about 11-12 miles from Lorton to Springfield. Having a Barnes and Noble w/Starbucks! WOW! A Barnes and Noble membership would provide a 10% discount to both parts, coffee and books! Can't beat that! Know nothing of Jason's Deli or Tropical Smoothie - someone care to elucidate?

Just build a building with:
5 food business = Pizza - Burgers - Subs - Hot Dogs - Pasta
1 coffee shop = not Starbucks real coffee with lite snacks
Build the building like an asterisk and the outside edge of each arm can be the drive up window.

How long before any of the places would fold because of lack of customers? The new Lorton Station is how busy? How much repeat business? This is all dream stuff! Not real needs.
