South County Linebacker Oren Burks Commits to Vanderbilt
Burks helped take his team to the state championship last year.
South County High School class of 2013 star linebacker Oren Burks, after extensive recruitment from big-name colleges, made it official on Aug. 11, and signed to play for the Vanderbilt University Commodores. Burks helped take the Stallions to the state championship last year, and his impressive record on the field made him an invaluable team player.
At 6-foot-4, the 195 pound Burks ended the season with 11 sacks, 22 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and 128 total tackles. The Stallions lost the state championship game to Pheobus 20-10.
But don't let the brawn fool you - he graduated with a 3.6 grade point average.
"Sources indicate that Burks was one of the top targets on Vanderbilt’s defensive recruiting board and is a high priority recruit in the class of 2013," according to Vanderbilt.247sports.com, adding that Burks was courted by a number of schools, including Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia and North Carolina State University.
