Storm Damages Car Windows in Lorton VRE Parking Lot
Severe thunderstorms on Saturday knocked out power to some areas and damaged cars that were in the lot after hours.
"In my 11 years that I have been here, we've had some doozies as storms, but never one that caused such damage over an isolated location," said Mark Roeber, a VRE spokesman.
The storm blew in at around 3:49 p.m. and blew down several trees and scattered debris, according to the National Weather Service.
"That has never occured before, and may never occur again," Roeber said, adding that VRE has cleaned up some of the damage. "We've been trying to get rid of it as we can. The problem for it is that the Lorton lot is not just for VRE, it is owned by Fairfax County and used by the neighborhood and commuters, so there are a lot of times that cars remain after VRE hours."
