Police Blotter: Lorton Man Drowns in Pohick Bay

The following information was supplied by the Fairfax County Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The following items are from recent police updates through Sept. 28 from the West Springfield and Franconia police districts of the Fairfax County Police Department.

Drowning in Pohick Bay (marked in red on above map), A 58-year-old Lorton man drowned in the waters of Pohick Bay around 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24. John R. Funk, of 10000 block of Midway Lane, was seen fishing from a kayak. Witnesses saw the kayak capsize about 100 yards from shore and the victim was seen swimming toward shore. Witnesses yelled to the victim and ran for help but the victim disappeared under the water quickly. According to first responders, the victim was not wearing a personal floatation device, nor was one located in the kayak.

In separate and unrelated incidents:

Drunk in Public/Assault on Officer (marked in blue on above map), 8500 block of Bertsky Lane, 9/22/12, 11:50 p.m. Officers were called for several people standing around a vehicle and making noise. While conducting an investigation one man was arrested for allegedly being drunk in public. He allegedly fought with officers who attempted to place a seat belt on him in the cruiser. Abdikadir Osman, 21, of Annandale, was charged with drunk in public and assault on a police officer. The officer was not injured.
